Legionnaires' Disease

Legionnaires’ Disease is a lung inflammation which is usually caused by infection from inhaling legionella bacteria. Legionella bacteria can multiply in water systems including air conditioners, plumbing systems, hot tubs and such like. You can become infected if you inhale microscopic droplets of water which contain the bacteria.

Initial symptoms are similar to flu, and can include fever, chills, headaches, confusion and muscle pain. As the condition develops, it can also lead to pneumonia like symptoms.

It usually takes six or seven days for symptoms to become apparent, although it can be much shorter (or longer) than this.

The condition is potentially serious, and can in some cases be fatal.

Legionella bacteria can spread more quickly in water installations in large buildings such as hotels, hospitals, office blocks, but can also develop in smaller premises, too.

Water systems can be contaminated by legionella if they are not properly maintained; for example, if the water temperature is incorrect or the installation is contaminated by rust, lime scale, etc.

If you have developed Legionnaires’ Disease, please contact Girlings Personal Injury Claims Limited for a free appointment, without obligation, in order to see whether you can claim compensation for your pain and suffering and any loss of earnings or financial losses.
