In September 2019 Shantala Carr, Senior Associate Medical Negligence Solicitor at Girlings Personal Injury Claims Ltd, and her husband will be embarking on a road trip from Deal, Kent to Florence, Italy, in a car that will be worth no more than £200, in order to raise money for the excellent charity Martha Trust, which provides residential support to profoundly disabled people, as well as respite and much needed support for families.
Shantala visited Martha Trust and met some of its residents in 2018. This is how she describes her experience:
“I was honoured to get the opportunity to look around the Martha Trust residential homes in Deal, Kent and meet some of the staff and residents of Martha. It was very apparent that the staff are whole heartedly dedicated to the residents and that the residents thrive from this and are incredibly happy. The atmosphere at Martha is friendly and welcoming and gives a home-to-home feel. The facilities are exceptional and include a hydrotherapy pool and sensory room.
At Girlings Personal Injury Claims, we regularly deal with clients who are disabled as a result of medical negligence or an accident, so I am fully aware of the complex care needs involved and how important things like hydrotherapy and sensory stimulation are to residents. Martha relies heavily on fundraising so I am keen to fundraise for them as much as I can.”
