Settlement for negligent breast cancer treatment

On 2 May 2018 we reported on our website that we had settled a case involving negligent breast cancer treatment for the sum of £170,000. The case concerned a failure by Medway NHS Foundation Trust to offer our client a mastectomy when she was diagnosed with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), a form of breast cancer which, if not treated properly, can lead to invasive breast cancer. Sadly our client is now terminally ill when she could have been cured, had a mastectomy been offered to her.

Shantala Carr, Senior Associate Solicitor in our Medical Negligence department, was interviewed by the BBC in London, a short clip of which was shown on BBC South East News on 19 June 2018. Further details can be found on the BBC’s online article here.

Mrs Carr also discussed the case and the law surrounding it on a live interview on BBC Radio Kent on 19 June 2018, which can be listened to below.
