We continue our “Meet the Team” feature with Brian Cowell, a partner who specialises in both personal injury and medical negligence claims.
Can you share something about you that people might not know?
I keep moon jellyfish as pets…and one of my sons is about to get an African Pygmy Hedgehog.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy watching my boys play football for their local clubs, even though this means being out in all weathers (which I am not keen on) and also assisting with linesman duties. As they play for two different clubs this means training on two different nights of the week and matches on Saturdays and Sundays!
What do you always carry with you to work?
I always carry a bottle of water with me to work, in an effort to drink more healthily rather than drinking coffee throughout the day.
How would your friends describe you?
They would probably say I have OCD as I am quite meticulous and I like tidiness. I don’t consider myself to have OCD, but I haven’t been tested!
What is the thing you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy getting a result that my client is happy with, especially when it has been a difficult matter and a lot of effort was put in to achieve the desired result.
What advice would you give to someone apprehensive about bringing a claim?
I would say that they should consider what action they would take against someone who has negligently caused damage to their property (a car for example). Most people wouldn’t hesitate in making a claim for damage caused to their property so why would they hesitate when damage has been caused to their body? Does this mean they value their property more than they care for their own bodies when injuries have been caused to them?
