£18,000 awarded to Brian Cowell’s client for retained foreign object following surgery

At the age of 42, Mrs C underwent a sterilisation reversal procedure on a private basis. Within six months of the sterilisation reversal our client’s periods became heavier, longer in length and at times more painful.

Five years after the procedure and having been unable to fall pregnant, our client underwent an ultrasound scan where a foreign body was noted. Ten months later the foreign body was surgically removed and was discovered to have been a tubal stent inserted at the time of the sterilisation reversal.

A Letter of Claim was sent to the private surgeon who performed the procedure. Liability was admitted by solicitors instructed by her insurers, along with an immediate offer of settlement in the sum of £10,000. Negotiations continued for one month and settlement was achieved in the sum of £18,000.
